Learn about the benefits of Cold Water Surf Therapy
simply the best medicine
there’s is this little something that you only find in this brilliant combination of freezing cold water and sliding down a wave. People always found benefits in cold water, knowing that it’s good for your health when there is a massive dosage of good stuff produced by your in-house pharmacy. Also every surfer knows gliding down a wave, feeling the energy that has sometimes traveled thousands of kilometers before being released, is just ahhhhhh so good! So to us it’s no surprise that this combination is literally pure ecstasy. Last but not least you need a good portion of humor to actually practice cold water surfing. And it’s also common knowledge that laughter, especially when shared with a bunch of other penguins is simply the best medicine!
winter beach body
If you decide to become a cold water surfer you need to get used to a winter beach body. This means you are way heavier due to soaked thick wetsuit materials, your motions feel like you are doing everything in slow motion and you might ask yourself if there’s a mean seal pulling your leash backwards while paddling.
Why is Cold Water Surfing good for your physical well-being?
BUT your physical health will strongly increase doing this crazy stuff. Your fitness and strength will increase even more than during the usual warm water play. Due to the exposure to the cold element your immune system, metabolism and heart health will get a strong boost. Cold water is also known to reduce inflammation, muscle soreness and generally leads to a higher level of energy.
But who wants to spend too much time taking cold showers or producing huge amounts of ice cubes to put them into your bathing tub? The combination with our most loved activity (surfing – in case you didn’t know) is just brilliant to enhance your physical health while having a blast!
Why is Cold Water Surfing good for your mental health?
When you are already feeling shitty and getting up or even out is a really hard thing to do, jumping into the freezing cold ocean and sliding down a wave, might seem totally crazy and far out of reach.
BUT if you somehow find your way (maybe with the support of other sirens) into the cold waves, there’s a whole natural pharmacy waiting for you to improve your mental health. A whole bunch of mood-elevating hormones and neurotransmitters (such as dopamine) are produced both with the exposure to cold water, but also through feeling the energy of the wave that transfers into your body when surfing. This little extra of adrenaline just creates the perfect cocktail to reduce anxiety, milder symptoms of depression and other mental health issues. Cold water surfing is probably not the solution for everything and everyone, but it’s definitely worth a try!
