Cold Water surf therapy

Thick neoprene, smelly booties, grey skies and frozen brains don’t seem to appealing at first…
Learn about the benefits of Cold Water Surf Therapy
… BUT there’s this little something that you only find in the combination of freezing cold water and sliding down a wave. People always found benefits in cold water. It’s just great for your health when there is a massive dosage of good stuff produced by your in-house pharmacy. Also every surfer knows gliding down a wave, feeling the energy that has traveled thousands of kilometers, is just ahhhhhh so good!
So to us it’s no surprise that cold water surfing is literally pure ecstasy. Last but not least you need a good portion of humor to actually practice it. And laughter, especially when shared with a bunch of other penguins, is simply the best medicine!
WINTER BEACH BODY
Becoming a cold water surfer means you need to get used to a winter beach body. Thick, water-soaked neoprene makes you heavier and your motions feel like you are doing everything in slow motion. You might even ask yourself if there’s a mean seal pulling your leash backwards while paddling!
Why is Cold Water Surfing good for your physical well-being?
BUT your physical health will strongly improve doing this crazy stuff! Your endurance and strength will increase, even more than during the usual warm water play.
Due to the exposure to the cold element your immune system, metabolism and heart health will get a strong boost. Cold water is also known to reduce inflammation, muscle soreness and generally leads to a higher level of energy.
And let’s be honest – who wants to stand in a freezing shower or fill their bath tub with ice cubes when you can surf and have a blast instead?
PURE ECSTASY
Cold water surfing is pure ecstasy, wrapped in laughter, resilience and joy. Are you ready to embrace the lovely chill with us?
Why is Cold Water Surfing good for your mental health?
When you are already feeling shitty and getting up is a really hard thing to do, jumping into the freezing cold ocean, might seem impossible.

BUT if you manage to make the leap (perhaps with the support of your fellow sirens), there’s a natural drugstore waiting for you in the ocean.
The perfect cocktail for your mind
Cold water surfing triggers the release of a variety of mood-elevating hormones and neurotransmitters, including dopamine and endorphins.
This happens due to the exposure to cold water, but also through feeling the energy of the wave that transfers into your body when surfing. This little extra of adrenaline creates the perfect cocktail to reduce anxiety, combat milder symptoms of depression and provides relief from other mental health challenges.
Cold water surfing is probably not the solution for everything and everyone, but it’s definitely worth a try!

“Cold Water Sirens have awakened in me a new love for water and surfing. Through their relaxed way, always characterized by incredible joy in everything, they share their knowledge. I realized very quickly how beautiful it can be on the board and in the water. Also how important the group around you is and especially that fun is the most important factor.
Even if I didn’t manage to stand properly on the board, I learned an incredible amount. I can go now into unknown waters more confidently and without fear. Before the sessions, I almost freaked out when something touched my leg in the water.
Now I am more relaxed and only feel the water and the current and the desire to swim or paddle further out and let myself drift.
I learned that it doesn’t matter what age people are when they start surfing. It also doesn’t matter what physical or mental state you are in. CWS manage to pick you up where you are, give you the support and the space you need.
In the group it was incredibly nice to notice the support we could give each other and the beaming faces of everyone made this tangible.
I am infinitely grateful to CWS to have been part of it all and hope that they will give many more courses of this kind, in which I would like to participate as often as possible. I quote: “Have fun and learn in and from the water, even when there is no wave!”
